THE VERB GUSTAR (TO BE PLEASING)
*To talk about linking something, use the verb gustar, literatlly translated, the verb means to be pleasing.There is no verb that simply means to like in Spanish, but gustar is used to convey this idea.
ex:
me gusta la carne..........meat is pleasing to me i like meat
te gusta el pescado....... " you like fish
le gusta caminar............ " he/she likes walking
nos gusta la paella........ " we like paella
os gusta el cine............. " you like the cinima
les gusta el vino............ " they like wine
-PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES WITH "GUSTA"
*We use "a" to clarify who is doing the linking
ex:
a Juan le gusta la carne..................................Juan likes meat
a Marta le gusta comprar...............................Marta likes shoooing
a mi me gusta correr......................................i like to run
a ellos les gustan mis lecciones.......................they love my lessons(in this case we use the plural, look the lesson 2)

If you say nos gustamos means or we like each other or we like ourself.
ops!! i forgot to say that pescado does not have singular or plural is always pescado and is pescado when we mean meat and pez is fish alive
DeleteAlso let me add that we use gusta when it is followed by only one noun. Ex. A mi me gusta la pop musica. A Maria le gusta el mar.
ReplyDeleteWe use gustan when we are talking for more than one thing. Ex.: A mi me gustan la cama, el sofa y la mesa. A Pedro le gustan los coches rapidos y las motocicletas.
